School of Media and Public Affairs Transfer Application

Thank you for your interest in transferring to SMPA!

Please note the updated deadlines for Fall 2025 admissions, this application will close on February 19th at 11:59 pm.

    Application Form Instructions

One letter of recommendation is required; please do not submit more than one. Please choose a recommender who knows you and your work, and tell them to email the letter as a word or PDF attachment to aecamp@gwu.edu.

    -
Read the application form before beginning to fill it out. By filling out the form, you agree that you understand the transfer admission guidelines.

-You can print your full unofficial transcript from GWeb and scan it, or print it as a .pdf and submit that. We require your full unofficial transcript, not just from the current semester.

-A completed CCAS Declaration of Major Form is required for this application. Please make sure to fill it out completely, including the suggested plan of study. No other signatures on the form are required at this time except for the student signature. We recommend using a mobile scanning app or scanners at Gelman Library.

-For information on the program path for each major, please refer to the curriculum worksheets for Journalism or Political Communication.
NEW POLICY: If you are a student at the Elliott School of International Affairs and wish to double major in Journalism or Political Communication, you do not have to be part of CCAS in order to apply to either major. You can remain part of ESIA and still double major in Journalism or Political Communication.

-ESIA students who wish to double major must fill out a ESIA Declaration of Second Major form and submit it along with their application. Please write Professor Pat Phalen next to Departmental Advisor. The only signature needed at this time is that of the applicant.

Questions or issues with the application form? Email aecamp@gwu.edu.

Admissions decisions will be emailed to students typically within 4-6 weeks after the deadline. Please make sure to check your GW email accounts and spam folders.
